Governor Ved Marwah today said that one of the crippling factors on the state economy is the over sized bureaucracy and added that the obsession with government jobs and political pressure to recruit more employees has resulted in draining the revenue of the state.
The Governor was speaking at the opening function of the round table conference on the �2nd Peace, Unity and Social Harmony� organized by the Manipur Committee for Social Concerns at the State Guest House today.
The Governor further said that the large number of cases pending with the court regard to health and education departments is draining the State exchequer by a few crore of rupees.
On the functioning of State police department, the governor noted with regret that the police have not been able to file charge sheets for a number of FIRs for the last couple of years.
Demand letters are increasingly being served on politicians as election time is nearing, the Governor observed and added that a number of politicians have approached the court pleading for security escort.
Although Manipur continued attained statehood in 1972 the administrative structure is yet to bloom as the decision making body lacks accountability, he added.
GoC of 57 Mountain Division, Major Iqbal who attended the function as guest of honour said that the situation in the state is worsened by the absence of political stability.
Lauding the land law in the hill districts, the GoC said the practice there is a good example of collective ownership.
He said it would prove inimical if there is any interference in the system of village administration and social system in the hills.
